The Ministry of Finance was forced to come out today and explain that the online portal for registration and update of information for the distribution of the $100,000 cash grant is still under development and testing.

The Finance Ministry issued a statement this afternoon indicating that the formal launch of the portal will be announced officially in due course. The move came after the portal’s address and corresponding information were leaked and made their way into the public domain during testing.

Hundreds of persons flocked the unfinished portal, crashing it in the process. A number of Government officials, who may have been unaware of the portal still being developed, had also shared the leaked information on their social media pages.

The Ministry of Finance today said until the official launch of the portal, persons should disregard any other information being circulated on the matter, adding that it is working to ensure a simple and seamless process for all Guyanese.

The portal is reportedly being developed through the National Data Management Agency, and it is suspected that the leak originated from someone within that agency.
