It was reported to the Court by the Prosecutor that Chase was held for additional searches after agents noticed the objects in his shoes as the shoes were going through the airport's scanner.

The 66-year-old man who was nabbed at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport with over 200 grams of cocaine stashed in his shoes has been charged and remanded to jail.

The accused, Roderick Andrew Chase, appeared before Principal Magistrate Judy Latchman at the Providence Magistrates’ Court today and pleaded not guilty to the charge.

It is alleged that on his birthday, August 13, 2019, while being an outgoing passenger at the airport, he was busted with 290 grams of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.

The elderly man, was represented by attorney-at-law George Thomas who made an application for bail but was denied.

It was reported to the Court by the Prosecutor that Chase was held for additional searches after agents noticed the objects in his shoes as the shoes were going through the airport’s scanner.

The 66-year-old man is a US national. He will remain behind bars until the next date of the hearing which will be the 30th August.
