Colombia’s Avianca Airlines begins Guyana service with three weekly flights

Colombia’s award-winning airline, Avianca, launched its Guyana service on Wednesday, offering more connections to Central and South America along with other international destinations.

The inaugural flight arrived early Wednesday morning at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport with 29 passengers and departed with 113.

The new route, which provides direct connectivity between Guyana and Colombia, is expected to boost tourism, trade, and people-to-people exchange, according to the Ministry of Public Works.

The Minister of Public Works, Juan Edghill in expressing his excitement about the new service said he believes Avianca’s arrival will further strengthen bilateral ties between Guyana and Colombia.

He said the Government remains committed to making significant investments in airport infrastructure to enable seamless connections.

The new service is also projected to boost Guyana’s international standing, making it more accessible to visitors from the Americas and elsewhere, while it could increase Guyana’s economic links with Colombia, creating chances for collaboration in a variety of areas.

According to the Public Works Ministry, the introduction of Avianca Airlines marks a pivotal moment in Guyana’s aviation scene, and the new service, together with the recent addition of several international carriers, has significantly improved the country’s connectivity to several international destinations.

Avianca will be operating three flights per week between Guyana and Colombia.
