Four years after coming to Guyana to take over the helm of GTT, which has since been rebranded as ONE Communications, the company has parted ways with Damian Blackburn as its Chief Executive Officer.
The decision was revealed to staffers of the company recently. Blackburn is expected to stay on the company’s Board of Directors for a few months then make a complete exit, company sources said.
A senior official of the company told News Source that the decision to part ways with Blackburn is part of another new plan by the company to change out its management and make key business decisions.
Blackburn took over as CEO of the company in 2021 and was credited with leading a major expansion in the company’s fibre internet service and leading a charge to get more communities connected.
However, in the past two years, the company appeared to be paying closer attention to its fibre internet service and corporate customers as its mobile service faced stiffer competition.
In the past two years alone, the company has scaled down some of its operations in the city and at some of its other locations, with a more focused shift to online solutions.
News Source understands that as part of a restructuring move, a number of positions within the company will be made redundant, and that has already led to some layoffs. A new marketing strategy is expected to be put in place with a broader focus, News Source understands.
The company has put a hold on new contracts until its strategy is finalised. Meanwhile, the company also parted ways recently with its Chief Financial Officer and a number of top managers.
While a new CEO is still to be identified, News Source understands that a former CEO for DIGICEL Trinidad and Tobago, has been earmarked for a key position in the company.
GTT rebranded as ONE Communications in September 2024, with many of its decision making being shifted to regional partners.
