Telecommunication giant – GTT – has announced that more than 55% of its customers, who were on its broadband internet service, have switched to the company’s Fibre service, which provides increased internet speeds and reliability.
According to GTT’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Damian Blackburn, this year has been a remarkable one for the company with 105,000 homes connected to GTT Fibre.
“People are actively getting onto the fibre. We are switching customers from our DSL service. Lots of customers are going straight from landline to fibre broadband. We have increased the speeds on the fibre and plans that we are offering now, the voice plus plans starting from 100Mbps,” Mr. Blackburn said.
He made the remarks while speaking at the launch of GTT’s ‘Tis the season to Drive’ Promotion.
The CEO said in keeping with the company’s commitment to the people of Guyana, it is working to have its Fiber network passing through 75% of the homes in Guyana by 2024. “That’s a massive investment, and a massive commitment to the country,” he said.
According to Blackburn, Guyanese deserve nothing less, and it’s for that reason that the telecommunication company is providing Guyana with the best internet service when compared to other global communication giants.
“It is the best service in the world, there is no difference between the GTT Fibre Service you have here, than what people are getting in the US from the big carriers there. We are further ahead in the roll out of fibre, as the percentage of homes than any of those carriers in the developed world. So that’s an amazing thing to think about,” he told reporters
It was noted that the company has also upgraded its mobile network.
Mr Blackburn said too that through its Business Solutions Programme, local businesses are able to capitalize on the company’s internet and voice solution packages through the ConneX plans.
Additionally, he said the company has significantly reduce the backlog of applications it had for land line services.
“We had a backlog of landline applications, that’s when I arrived into the thousands, and I am pleased to report to you all tonight, this morning, when we checked the backlog number, it was 108,” he reported.
Mr. Blackburn said clearing the backlog was not possible without the support of the team of Guyanese team of engineers who worked to ensure that Guyanese who were desirous of having landline service, were provide with the service.
