An East Ruimveldt hairdresser who was nabbed on Sunday with 100 cocaine filled pellets in her stomach and an additional pack of cocaine stashed in her vagina, will be spending the next four years in jail.
46-year-old Karen Stuffle, appeared in Court this morning and immediately told the presiding Magistrate that she accepts responsibility for the crime and did not want to waste the Court’s time.
She explained that she was paid US$400 in advance to ferry the cocaine out. She said she was also provided with the airline ticket.
The cocaine carrying hairdresser apologised to the Court as she asked for mercy. She said she will never allow herself to fall victim to the cocaine carrying trade again.
In addition to the four year jail sentence, the Magistrate also fined the convict $2.3 million dollars.
Stuffle was held by agents of the Customs Anti Narcotics Unit on Sunday as she prepared to board a New York bound flight at the Cheddi Jagan Airport.
During a search of the woman, a large package containing a quantity of cocaine was found in her vaginal cavity. Upon further questioning, she admitted that she had also swallowed one hundred pellets. She was immediately arrested and taken to a city hospital, where she excreted the pellets.
At least three other persons linked to her drug trafficking effort have since been arrested and a search is underway for a fourth suspect.
