Police in Region Seven are investigating a strange case of an alleged attempted robbery and beating at a Region 7 mining camp.

According to reports out of the area, on Sunday, six armed men along with three well-known businessmen who are also involved in mining, attacked and demanded gold from a Brazilian mining camp in the Purini area.

One of the miners who was beaten said the businessmen arrived at the camp in a helicopter and met up with the gunmen and moved into the camp demanding gold.

He said after they were told that there was no gold at the camp, the gunmen started to beat him and other miners with their guns while threatening them that they intend to return today. All of this was being done in the company of the businessmen.

Workers at the camp grounds recognized the three businessmen who were in the company of the gunmen.

It is believed that one of them hails from Bartica while the other two are involved in mining in the same Region 7 area and have links to other large-scale miners.

The owner of the mining camp,  Nide Carneiro Malhao was not at the camp at the time of the incident.

News Source understand that the incident may have had its genesis on the mining land in the area and who is the real owner.

According to reports, the owner of the mining camp claims that he bought four mining blocks for $60 Million but only received paper work for one of the blocks.

The previous owner may have sold the mining block to another group of miners.

The man is convinced that the attack was an effort to scare him off of the mining lands and intimidate him and his workers.

The matter has been reported to the Bartica Police Station and also at CID headquarters in Georgetown. According to reports, the matter will also be reported to Guyana Geology and Mines Commission as it relates to the land issue.
