The woman, Zalena Ali, pleaded guilty to the attempting to excite hostility charge and was fined $75,000, but entered a not guilty plea to the charge of threatening language against the President of Guyana. She was granted $25,000 bail on that charge.

Golden Grove Housewife charged over “Tik-Tok” threats against President

A 59-year-old housewife from Golden Grove on the East Bank of Demerara was today charged with threatening language and attempting to excite hostility.

The woman, Zalena Ali, pleaded guilty to the attempting to excite hostility charge and was fined $75,000, but entered a not guilty plea to the charge of threatening language against the President of Guyana. She was granted $25,000 bail on that charge.

Ali was arrested on Sunday after a video surfaced on the social media site, Tik-Tok with her complaining about government services and calling for the death of the President.

The video was recorded in a market place as Ali chatted with a man and a vendor between giggles.

The matter was heard at the Diamond Magistrates’ Court by Magistrate Sunil Scarce.

The remaining case of threatening language against the President has been adjourned until the 18th May, 2023.
