Just over a week since the body of well-known speedboat operator, William Cozier, was discovered in the Puruni River with a large battery tied around it and the hands bound, a 29-year-old gold miner has been charged with the murder.
The accused, Tony Rampersaud of Itaballi, Lower Mazaruni appeared at the Bartica Magistrates’ Court on Monday and was not required to enter a plea to the indictable murder charge. He has been remanded to jail.
Details surrounding the murder charge have not been released.
The 52-year-old boat operator, William Cozier, had been reported missing by family members after he did not return to his home and could not be reached. His body was discovered during a search by family members three days after he was reported missing.
Family members suspect a robbery might have led to the man’s murder. At the time he went missing, it is believed that he was transporting a large quantity of cash along with raw gold.
The murder accused will make his next Court appearance on the 12th May 2025.
