The APNU+AFC Coalition this afternoon expressed its thanks to US Congressman Hackeem Jeffries for his statement at that Guyana-New York anti-racism rally on Sunday.
The high-ranking US Congressman expressed worry about the situation in Guyana since the change in government. He rebuked the Government for its position on a number of issues, triggering a response from both the President and Prime Minister.
Today, the APNU+AFC said Congressman Jeffries has consistently demonstrated that he is “a true friend of the democracy-loving people of Guyana and harbours no reservation in openly supporting efforts to expose the morally bankrupt installed PPP regime’s insistence on ruling with the firm fist of authoritarianism. Congressman Jeffries is a champion of democracy and justice”.
The coalition rejected the Prime Minister’s response to the US Congressman adding that “it is no wonder that Guyana’s foreign affairs continue to be in a state of disarray when imprudent utterances such as made by Mr. Phillips emanate from the PPP’s assembled chorus section”.
The APNU+AFC said the event has brought increased focus and political consciousness on what it called “the PPP’s racist, oppressive and discriminatory policies” to the United States and internationally.
“The irrefutable evidence of racism and oppression to which the Members of Parliament of APNU+AFC spoke at the rally is a matter of record in and outside of the National Assembly of Guyana”, the statement added while pointing to the firing of public servants and the distribution of resources of the state to particular groups.
The coalition offered thanks to the organisers of the event, Rickford Burke and the Guyanese Organisation Against Racism.
