Harmon rubbishes claims of endorsing Ali for re-election

Former Minister of State and former Opposition Leader, Joseph Harmon has rubbished as “false”, reports circulating that he has endorsed President Irfaan Ali for a second term.

Mr. Harmon told News Source this morning that the reports are dishonest and meant to cause confusion.

There have been speculations about Harmon endorsing a candidate ahead of the September elections. Harmon said he has not offered any endorsement to the President.

“I have not endorsed President Ali for a second term and the NewsRoom cannot use a picture taken at Amna Ally funeral to push a narrative or convert that to push a narrative of an endorsement of President Ali, it is disgusting false journalism and I demand that it be taken down,” Mr. Harmon said.

Mr. Harmon who has been out of the political spotlight since he lost his bid for the position of PNC Leader to Mr. Aubrey Norton in 2021, said he will remain out of the political spotlight.

“I have no plans to endorse President Ali, I am not sure where that is coming from, this is all mischief, but I want it to be known I have not issued support or endorsement for anyone,” Mr. Harmon said.

Mr. Harmon remains a member of the PNC/R, and said he will be observing the political campaign from the sidelines, and offer well wishes to all political parties contesting the elections.

Mr. Harmon served as Minister of State during the last Coalition administration and was elected Opposition leader in 2020, but soon after resigned the position when he lost his bid for the PNC leadership position.
