“We have seen a number of areas with relatively high numbers. In Region Three we are monitoring Sisters village where we have approximately 20 cases, in Region 4, the area where we are monitoring is Sophia where we have 20 cases and in Region 6, New Amsterdam continues to be a little problematic and we currently have in New Amsterdam 32 cases, in Region 9, over the last three weeks we have seen a surge in cases and right now we have 39 cases in St. Ignatius, 33 cases in Lethem and another 19 cases or so in Tabathinga and in Region 10 at Wismar and Mabura, we have 17 cases each”, the Minister said.

Anthony said the Government will continue to monitor the areas and ensure those who have tested positive are isolated.

“They are now doing a form of mobile vaccination, so they go into a village, and they literally go house to house to house to try and get people to take the vaccines. So that is ongoing in a number of communities, and we are getting a mixed reaction because some people some people are still hesitant,” The Minister explained.

Additionally, the Minister said the Ministry has been working with several partners and groups to influence people to take the vaccines so as to accelerate the vaccination campaign which has been picking up pace.

With the rollout of the second dose of the Sputnik V vaccine today, the number of persons receiving both doses of the vaccine is expected to increase significantly.
