Home Affairs Minister sidesteps questions on confidence in current leadership of Police Force

Minister of Home Affairs Robeson Benn refused to say whether he has confidence in the current leadership of the Guyana Police Force, when questioned on the issue this morning by News Source.

Mr. Benn said he has confidence in himself.

“I have sufficient confidence in myself in working to make a better Ministry, and better services of the Ministry”, Benn said.

When he was further pressed on the issue, he repeated himself and stated also that recent matters that have engaged the attention of the press have the attention of the judiciary. He said he will continue to work to improve the Ministry of Home Affairs and its agencies.

“There may be bumps and disappointments along the way, but it comes with the territory, historical and recent experiences. I would say otherwise that maybe you know Shakespeare a bit, that what Cassius said to a certain individual, that “the fault is not in our stars but in ourselves”.

Those words are taken from the William Shakespeare play “Julius Caesar” and captured the words spoken by the character named Cassius, to one of the other characters, named Brutus.

Assistant Police Commissioner Calvin Brutus is currently facing an $800 million money laundering probe. He has been off the job since June as the investigation has been ongoing.
