Inspector and three Police ranks under probe over alleged $4M heist from Chinese Casino winner

An Inspector of Police and three other ranks of the Guyana Police Force are under investigation over the alleged theft of $4 Million from a Chinese national who had just won big at a city Casino. The incident reportedly took place early last week. The Guyana Police Force only released information about it this afternoon following repeated questions from the media.

The Guyana Police Force in a statement confirmed the investigation this afternoon and said the matter is being probed by the Office of Professional Responsibility.

The Chinese businessman complained to the Police that he was stopped and searched by a party of Policemen just after winning big at a Church Street casino. He claims that during the search, the Policemen stole $4 million from him, which was part of his winnings at the Casino.

The Police Force said following the complaint, the Inspector and three other ranks were subsequently detained and placed under closed arrest on Thursday, the 14th of August 2025.

The Police said the four have since been released under open arrest but remain at the Tactical Service Unit.

The case file is expected to be submitted to the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) Chambers on Wednesday, 20th August 2025, for legal advice.
