Opposition Leader and Former President, Bharrat Jagdeo, who remains under scrutiny for his purchase of seaside state property at a cost far below its value while he served President, has launched a Facebook page to fight corruption in Government.
At his weekly press conference on Thursday, Mr. Jagdeo, who has in the past admitted that corruption existed under his government, said he has been receiving lots of complaints about alleged corruption under the current government.
He said those complaints have triggered the decision to set up the Facebook page, as well as to have a dedicated number for WhatsApp messages.
“We are getting tonnes of information from people and a lot of people have been asking me, how can we share information and a lot of them come here and drop off stuff from the public service. So I want to say to people out there, there is a Facebook page. If you have anything and all of this information will be treated anonymously and confidentially. The Facebook page is, you can go and search for Corruption Watch 592 and you can get on that Facebook page to send us information”, Jagdeo announced.
In the past few years, Mr. Jagdeo has accused the coalition government of being corrupt, while saying that although his government was accused of corruption, the current government has failed to bring any strong case against it for corruption. He has now promised to wage his own war against corruption in Government.
The Government has dismissed accusations from the former President.
