Kerry pushes peaceful elections in Guyana to strengthen democracy

US Secretary of State John Kerry wants to see Guyana host peaceful elections this year that will strengthen the entire region’s commitment to democratic institutions. The Top US Diplomat made the remarks in a statement to commemorate Guyana’s 45th Republic Anniversary.

He said the United States stands with Guyana as a partner and friend in the Inter-American System and in continuing to strengthen and revitalize the Organization of American States.

According to Kerry, the US will continue to work together with Guyana to achieve energy and environmental sustainability, as agreed upon during the recent Caribbean Energy Security Summit.

Just recently the US Embassy here in Georgetown in a statement said while it will not play a direct role in the elections, it intends to lend financial support to the work that will be done by the organization of American states and other observer missions.
