Mahaica man shot dead during home invasion

A 27-year-old Mahaica resident was shot dead on Monday evening when armed bandits invaded his Supply, Mahaica home around 8:30pm.   The dead man has been identified as Omadat Persaud who is also known as “Vicky”.

According to a statement from the police, the man was at home with his other family members when the three men barged into the house. Two of them were armed with firearms.

In a statement, the  Police Public Relations Office said investigations have revealed that “Yogendra Naipaul, 38 years, his wife Omadai Naipaul, 38 years, and their son and daughter were outside of the home when they were confronted by the armed men. The perpetrators took them into a building where they also held up Omadat Persaud”.

The man was reportedly shot to his head during the robbery, according to the Police.

 The armed men escaped with a quantity of jewellery and a large sum of U.S currency.
This is the third robbery and murder incident since the week started. On Sunday, an East Coast Demerara man was shot dead on the Seawalls along the East Coast during a robbery.
On Monday morning, a handyman who was accompanying his employer to a city bank was shot dead when two armed gunmen attacked them and made off with $8 Million.
The Guyana Police Force has reported an increase in the number of murders for 2013.
