Police investigators were called to the Diamond community on Tuesday evening after political activist and former Guyana Defence Force Officer, Courtney Crum-Ewing was shot dead execution style along one of the roadways in the community.
Crum-Ewing had carried out a one man protest for months outside the office of the Attorney General Anil Nandlall, calling for Nandlall’s resignation over statements he made during a recorded telephone conversation.
Police Commander of A Division Clifton Hicken confirmed the shooting death of Crum-Ewing. He said investigations into the matter are ongoing.
Crum-Ewing had complained about being targeted by persons who were against his daily protest outside the Attorney General’s office. Last year, he filed a police complaint after his mini-bus was vandalized. He was convinced that the incident was not a random act.
Just recently he announced that he would be campaigning in his community of Diamond for the opposition parties contesting the upcoming elections. He announced on his Facebook page that he had recently acquired an office space for that campaign.
It is unclear whether he was shot by a single gunman or if more than one person was involved in the execution. Details are still emerging.
