Nandlall celebrates visits of US Secretaries of State as reposing confidence in Guyana Government

Attorney General Anil Nandlall has hailed the visits of three US Secretaries of State to Guyana over the past five years, boasting that the visits have signaled the US confidence in the Guyana Government.

Since 2020, US Secretaries of State, Mike Pompeo, Anthony Blinken and Marco Rubio have visited Guyana.

During his weekly Issues in the News programme, Mr.Nandlall said it is not normal for such high ranking US officials to visit Guyana so often.

“These occurrences must not be taken for granted they are a demonstration beyond doubt of the confidence that a powerful government like the US government has in Guyana, has in the future of Guyana and has in the government in Guyana,” the Attorney General noted.

Historically, Nandlall said, Guyana has never had the privilege of attracting such high ranking officials.

He said the most recent visit of Secretary Rubio has given the country a boost in its international standing. Among other things, Mr. Rubio has expressed the US full support for Guyana in the ongoing territorial case with Venezuela

He also noted during a joint press briefing that Guyana is one of the most exciting places to be right now, a characterization Mr. Nandlall said should make every Guyanese proud.

He criticized the opposition for not joining the Government in celebrating Rubio’s visit. Instead he said the Opposition focused on remarks made by Rubio on the state of the country’s roads.

“One would have expected that a national party would thank the Secretary of State for the position he has taken on Guyana’s national territory and territorial integrity, not a word about that, you would have thought that they would express some gratitutude, even begrudgingly to the Secretary of State for his generous but accurate remarks of the state of our country and potential of our country for the future but they went on, according to them, to clear up some misleading information that the Secretary of State had about who build the road,” Nandlall said.

Nandlall said the statements by Mr. Rubio illustrates that Guyana is one of the most desirable and attractive investment destinations in the world.
