2024 was an extremely good year for the Bauxite Industry, with production growing by 225%, largely due to investments made by Bosai Minerals company in Linden, Region 10.
Minister of Natural Resources, Vickram Bharrat, on Tuesday, disclosed that bauxite production in 2024 totaled 1,703,121 tons – representing a 225% increase. In 2023, the country had only produced 523,732 tons of bauxite.
Minister Bharrat credited the industry’s overwhelming success to the investments made by Bosai.
“With further investment and encouragement and the confidence that Bosai has in the government and the economy, they have invested significantly over the last few years in the operation at the Montgomery Mines and the Linden Plant. So much so that we have seen a steady increase in bauxite over the last few years,” the Natural Resources Minister said.
The company single handedly produced 1,529,151 tons of bauxite, while GINMIN, produced 173,972 tons of bauxite in 2024.
Among the investments made by Bosai was a US$120M project that included the construction and operationalization of kiln #15, designed to increase the company’s capacity.
“The company has invested in barges that can transport the ore to its transshipment point a few miles off the shore of Guyana. And so now, they are in a position to ship larger quantities of ore from Guyana to their destination. GMI – Guyana Manganese Company – is also part of the Bosai Group of Companies, this improvement in the logistics, especially the shipping, will also support the manganese company in Region One as well,” Minister Bharrat said.

The investments in the Bauxite Industry, the Natural Resources Minister said, have not only resulted in increase production, but have also increased job opportunities for the people of Region 10.
“We have seen an increase in employment based on investments by the company. We have over 1000 persons now, working in the bauxite sector – that’s increase of about 200-300 persons in 2024,” Minister Bharrat explained.
He said Bosai has committed to even more investments in the future, and the people of Guyana can expect an even further increase in bauxite production this year.
