NCN fires Head of its Berbice operations

The Head of the National Communications Network (NCN) Berbice operations Faizal Jafarally was on Friday morning fired.

The dismissal was confirmed by Jafarally himself.

News Source was informed that a team, including NCN’s CEO Molly Hassan and Communications Director at the Ministry of the Presidency Mark Archer travelled to the New Amsterdam location this morning where Jafarally was handed his dismissal letter.

The team also included NCN’s Human Resource Manager, its Internal Auditor and the State Auditor.

Jafarally said he was told that under the restructuring that was taking place, under the new political dispensation, his services were no longer needed.

He said he was given two options, to resigned or be dismissed.

“I refused to resign because I did nothing wrong and I told them do what they have to do,” he said.

Reports out of NCN are that Jafarally had failed to meet his probation terms.

He was a candidate on the PPP/C list in the May 11 elections and a former member of parliament for the PPP.

He said the handing over was completed within minutes and he was informed that all assests were in place.

Jafarally’s dismissal comes one day after NCN fired two of its news editors over a $68,000 fraud that involved hotel bookings and bogus receipts.

Senior News Editor and former anchor Eddy Layne and News Editor Adele Rampersaud were sent packing by NCN management following the findings of an investigation into an incident that occurred during the elections campaign.

According to reports, NCN management became suspicious of some receipts that were presented by the Senior News editor and a news editor during the run up to the May 11elections.

Layne and Rampersaud have since denied the claims.
