Norton threatens Primus with lawsuit over “defamatory” Facebook claims

An Attorney for PNC Reform Leader, Aubrey Norton, has written to General Secretary of the WIN party, Member of Parliament, Odessa Primus, threatening legal action if she does not apologise over an alleged defamatory statement she made against Mr. Norton on her Facebook page, and pay $500,000 in compensation.

In a letter to Ms. Primus, Attorney Dexter Smartt, stated that on the 30th January 2026 on her personal Facebook page, Primus “falsely and maliciously” published a statement with certain claims against Mr. Norton including a statement that he received and accepted monies from the Vice President of Guyana, Bharrat Jagdeo.

Norton has denied the claims made by Primus and has stated that the statement has harmed his good name and reputation and has also affected his employment prospects, especially in the field of academia.

The Attorney said Norton has also suffered irreparable damage to his name and his political career because of the statement made by Primus.

Attorney Smartt said the statement by Primus amounts to defamation since the allegations, according to him, are false.

He has given MP Primus an ultimatum of 24 hours to remove the offending statement from her Facebook page, issue a public apology and pay compensation of $500,000. The Attorney said her failure to meet the request will result in legal action being filed.
