PNC begins preparations for Congress and Elections in June -Norton confirms

Leader of the People’s National Congress Reform, Aubrey Norton, today confirmed that the party’s Delegates Congress and Elections will take place on the 28th, 29th and 30th June.

As News Source reported on Thursday, the Central Executive Committee of the party met on Wednesday and agreed to the dates.

At a press conference this morning, Mr. Norton said the Congress will be held under the theme “Forming the next Government: Building a just, inclusive and prosperous society for all”

“The theme was chosen to reflect the Party’s determination to return to government in the next general elections and to implement its people-centered development strategy. Party Delegates and Members from all ten regions will be attending Congress in person. There will be no virtual attendance. Arrangements have already started”, Mr. Norton said.

Norton said the upcoming Congress is expected to be one of the largest, most spirited, and most important in the Party’s history.

He said the party congress and elections will be transparent, as the party also seeks to improve on its transparency.

“The party’s congress has always been transparent, but that doesn’t mean that they don’t have problems. And we will continue to improve the transparency. The steps we will take are internal to the party”, he said.

Mr. Norton also dismissed reports that he is heading the party’s congress committee as false and foolish. He said anyone who knows the PNC, would know that it is an accreditation committee that overlooks the party’s congress and elections. He said he is not the head of any such committee.

Norton will be seeking re-election as Party Leader. However, he is expected to face challenges from party executive members, Roysdale Forde and Amanza Walton-Desir. Both Forde and Walton-Desir have indicated their readiness to accept nominations for the post of party leader and other top positions in the party’s executive.
