Power ship now providing 36 megawatts of power to national grid -GPL

The Guyana Power and Light Company has announced that the power ship is now providing its maximum capacity of 36 megawatts to the national grid.

In a statement this afternoon, GPL said the capacity was increased incrementally, and with the additional power and significant boost in generation, there will be a reduction of disruptions of the power supply to GPL customers.

Over the past two weeks, technicians of the Guyana Power and Light company and the Karpowership of Turkey, have been working around the clock to hook the ship up to the national grid.

The power is now being injected directly into the Demerara-Berbice Interconnected system.

Back in April, the Government announced its decision to rent the services of the power ship, which was already in the region. The agreement will see the power ship remaining here for two years. The cost will run into millions of dollars, but the Government believes it was necessary to get the service of the mobile power plant, to meet local demand.
