Some workers attached to a number of agencies attached to the Ministry of Public Security will be getting their October salaries late as the Ministry may not have catered adequately for new appointments.
The Permanent Secretary at the Public Security Ministry dispatched a memorandum to the Heads of the Guyana Forensic Lab, the Guyana Prison Service, the Guyana Fire Service, the National Anti Narcotics Agency, the Juvenile Holding Centre, Police Complaints Authority and the Customs Anti Narcotics Unit, informing all of them of the situation.
Permanent Secretary Danille McCalmont indicated that there is insufficient funds for the payment of salaries for the month of October in a timely manner. She did not indicate how soon the salaries would be ready.
However, she indicated that she is currently working along with the Ministry of Finance to address the issue.
News Source understands that Finance Ministry officials were notified late of the issues being faced with finances for salaries at the Public Security Ministry. An official said new appointments should not have affected the rest of the staff on the established payroll.
Efforts to make contact with the Permanent Secretary were futile.
