Public Service Co-operative Credit Union to host special general meeting on September 10

The Guyana Public Service Co-operative Credit Union has announced that it will be hosting a Special General Meeting on September 10 to elect a new Committee of Management in line with decision of the High Court last year.

In a Notice issued by Acting Chairman of the Credit Union, Patrick Mentore, the Special General Meeting with be held both virtually and in person and polling stations will be set up in all ten administrative regions to cater for the Credit Union’s membership.

The meeting will be presided over by the Acting Chairman of the Credit Union.

The agenda of the meeting includes a motion to recall of the current Committee of Management of the Credit Union and another motion to bar nine serving members of the Credit Union from seeking re-election.

The motion states that Former Chairman Karen Vansluytman-Corbin, Gillian Pollard, and Ruth Howard must not be re-elected to the Management Committee. Those three were recently slammed by High Court Judge, Justice Navendra Singh, and were barred from holding any position on the Credit Union Management team until the Court decides otherwise.

The six other Committee Members that the motion is seeking to block from contesting the elections are Leslyn Noble, Aurthur Gibbs, Jermain Hermanstyne, O. Saskia Eastman-Onwuzirike, Charles Ogle and Michelle David.

High Court Judge, Justice Navendra Singh in a recent ruling stripped the Chairman, Secretary and a board member of their respective positions.

Former Chairman of the Credit Union Trevor Benn, Vice Chair, Patrick Mentore and Treasurer Rajdai Jaggdernauth were ordered to take over those positions.

Mentore has been acting as the Chairman and Benn as Secretary.

The Special General Meeting to be held is in line with an earlier Court ruling.
