An investigation has been launched into an early morning fire that gutted a section of the Criminal Investigations Department of the Anna Regina Police Station.
The fire occurred at around 5 o’ clock this morning.
According to a statement from the Police, a Police Constable was making checks around the wooden building in the station compound when he noticed smoke emanating from the Office of the Regional Detective Inspectors and the Regional Prosecutor.
An alarm was raised and within five minutes a fire tender arrived on the scene and managed to contain the blaze to the one section of the building and completely extinguish it.
A police report stated that a number of louvre windows were removed from the office and suspected kerosene was found nearby.
