The General Secretary of the People’s Progressive Party and former Minister of Home Affairs Clement Rohee, is not pleased with recent statements about him by the Commissioner of Police, Seelall Persaud.

At an end of year press conference, the Police Commissioner swiped at the former Home Affairs Minister, accusing him of wanting the Police Force to go back to a demoralized state that existed while he served as the Home Affairs Minister.

The Top Cop was making reference to Rohee’s call for the Police Service Commission to put a hold to all promotions until existing disciplinary actions involving officers who are up for promotion would have been completed.

At his weekly Freedom House press conference on Monday, Mr. Rohee said he was surprised with the statement coming out from the Police Commissioner and found it to be very political and very unbecoming of a sitting Police Commissioner.

Mr. Rohee said he cannot recall other former recent Police Commissioners ever making similar swipes at a political figure while they were still in office.

The PPP General Secretary has accused the Guyana Police Force of bowing to political pressure and allowing political directions. The Police Force has denied his accusations.
