Young father succumbs to injuries sustained in East Coast Demerara accident

An East Coast Demerara family’s hopes were dashed today when they learned that their son had succumbed to injuries that he sustained in an accident on Tuesday morning.

The young man, Leon Sikandar, passed away at the Georgetown Hospital this morning. He never recovered from his injuries. The death has thrown his wife and children along with his other family members into shock and mourning.

Silkandar was a driver of one of three cars that got involved in an accident yesterday morning along the Rupert Craig Highway close to the UG Access road.

Family members said they learned of the man being critically injured in the accident from live Facebook videos of the scene.

A Police report stated that a total of five persons were injured in the three-vehicular smash-up.

The young father, Leon Sikandar, was on his way to Georgetown when the driver of a car in the opposite lane lost control of the vehicle, which spun out of control, crash over the median and into Sikandar’s car. The impact sent Sikandar’s car crashing into another vehicle.

The other injured persons remain hospitalized, as investigations continue. Relatives of the dead man say he will be remembered as a loving husband and father and a big prankster to his siblings and parents.
