Bandit shot dead during attempt to attack policemen

A suspected thief was shot dead early Friday morning after he reportedly rushed to police officers with a chopper.

The man was caught red handed in a Regent Street store along with another thief just after 3am when someone spotted the and contacted police.

“On arrival, the police managed to arrest one of the men. During this, another suspect who was in the process of climbing over the fence to the compound, jumped down and attacked the ranks with a chopper.”

According to the statement from the police, one of the officers was forced to resort to the use of force and the suspect was shot to his body. He was pronounced dead after being rushed to the Georgetown Hospital.

The Police said “the so far unidentified man who is of African descent appears to be in his mid-thirties, is brown in complexion and 5’ 2” in height. The body is at the GPHC mortuary.”

The Police Office of Professional Responsibility (OPR) has launched a probe into the incident.
