The Public Servants Staff College which was promised by President David Granger days after being elected, will become operational next month.

The President has been lamenting the need for public sector reform to build what he envisions to be a neutral and professional public sector.

In an invited comment on Wednesday, President Granger announced that the start of training for both current and potential public servants, will begin in September.

He said the college is currently in its logistics phase as it moves to make sure that classrooms are ready and materials available to carry out the training.

According to Mr. Granger, the present Public Service Training department is not adequate for this purpose and as a consequence the training will be done temporarily at the current Critchlow Labour College.

When asked if the government will be renting space to carry out the training, the President said there is an “arrangement” between the college and the government.

Persons desirous of undergoing the one year training are currently being encourage to register after which they will be selected and tested before undergoing the course.

Back in May, the President spoke of his zero tolerance for political public servants.

President Granger says he wants the public service to have integrity, intelligence and to be impartial.
