An off-duty security officer attached to a private company in Georgetown is nursing a gunshot wound to his shoulder after he was attacked during an early Sunday morning robbery attempt in the La Penitence area.

The security officer, Omar Bynoe said he was in the Middle Road, La Penitence area close to 4 o’ clock on Sunday morning when he noticed three men walking along the roadway.

He said they walked past his car but then suddenly turned back and it was then he noticed that one of them was armed. The gunman fired a shot at him, hitting him in the shoulder.

Bynoe said he was able to reach for his firearm and fired several shots behind the men who then hurried away from the scene. He believes one of the bandits was hit.

Police investigators were called in and a probe is underway. Bynoe remains a patient of a city hospital.
