The Guyana Prison Service has announced that female prisoners who are currently being housed at the New Amsterdam Prison, will be moved to the Timehri Prison on Wednesday. The move is a temporary one.

The women offenders will be housed at Timehri while construction works are being carried out at the New Amsterdam jail to the tune of over $1 Billion.

Meanwhile, the male prisoners that are currently being housed at the Timehri Prison, will be moved to the Lusignan Prison, the Prison Service reported.

It was also reported today that works are moving apace on the new female prison at Lusignan. That new prison is expected to be completed by the first quarter of 2024 and will replace the female prison in New Amsterdam, upon its completion.
