39-year-old Parika resident, Gurudeen Lalaram, was charged and remanded to jail on Thursday for the murder of his 25-year-old wife, Parbattie Persaud.
The man appeared at the Leonora Magistrates’ Court before Magistrate Zamilla Ally-Seepaul, and he was not required to enter a plea to the indictable charge.
He is accused of using a piece of wood and beating his wife, Parbattie Persaud, to death along the Parika Access Road. The woman was a vendor and was on her way to the market on the morning of December 31, 2023, when the incident occurred.
The beating death was video recorded on a mobile phone by an eyewitness who was shouting at the man to stop.
The woman, Parbattie Persaud, had repeatedly complained to persons about the man’s abusive ways, but would always stay with him.
The accused is expected back in Court on 2nd February.
