The People’s National Congress Reform has rejected a meeting of A Partnership for National Unity and the election of Executives of the Partnership, declaring that the meeting and election were unauthorized and null and void.
In a statement on Saturday afternoon under the banner of the APNU, it was stated that the APNU held an Executive Council Meeting on the 6th June, 2024. The meeting was not attended by the People’s National Congress, according to the statement, which also indicated that although invited to the meeting, the PNCR offered no excuse for its absence.
The People’s National Congress Reform is the largest party in the APNU and holds the Chairmanship of the coalition grouping. But the statement indicated that the meeting was attended by Keith Scott and Courdel Joseph of the National Front Alliance, Vincent Henry and Errol Ross of the Guyana Action Party, Tabitha Sarabo-Halley of the Guyana Nation Builders and Jaipaul Sharma of the Equal Rights and Justice Party.
The group stated that the meeting went ahead with the absence of the PNC and elected Vincent Henry as Chairman of the APNU with Tabitha Sarabo-Halley as the General Secretary.
However, in a statement last evening, which also came under the banner of the APNU and dispatched through the PNCR, it was indicated that the PNCR, which holds the Chairmanship of the APNU did
not send out any notice for APNU meeting nor elections.
“What purports to be an APNU elections is unauthorized and null and void. As is well known, the APNU has no General Secretary since none was elected after the resignation of Mr Joe Harmon”, the statement said.
It also indicated that any claim that the PNCR was invited to a meeting is totally untrue, as the party did not receive any such invitation and there is no one with the “locus standi” to send such an
invitation.
NEWS Source understands that since winning the leadership of the People’s National Congress and taking over as Chairman of the APNU, Aubrey Norton, hosted just one meeting of the APNU’s Executive Council and that was in January 2022.
There are reports that Norton questioned the addition of the Guyana Nation Builders Party and the Equal Rights and Justice Party to the APNU. Both parties were formed after the last General Elections when the APNU+AFC was booted from Government. However, except for the leaders of the two parties, the rest of their membership remains unknown.
