27-year-old radio host and singer Shaima Muna, pleaded guilty today to trafficking more than 32 pounds of marijuana, hours after she was busted by the Police at Weldaad on the West Coast of Berbice.

The Police said Muna was the driver and only occupant in a car heading towards Georgetown. After she appeared to be acting nervous during a stop by the Police and the scent of marijuana was observed by the ranks, a search was carried out on her vehicle.

In the trunk of the car, the Police said the ranks found a traveling bag containing several large parcels of marijuana.
The woman was immediately arrested and taken into custody. While in custody, she admitted to the offence and told investigators that she was trafficking the marijuana to assist with the medical bills for her mother who is hospitalized.
She was taken to Court and after the charge was read to her, she immediately pleaded guilty. The Magistrate ordered that the young woman be remanded to jail until the 4th October. A probation report has been ordered before sentencing is handed down.
Shaima Muna appeared at Weldaad Magistrate’s Court this morning (Friday, September 20th, 2024) before Magistrate R. Mohabir, where the charge was read to her. She pleaded guilty and was remanded to prison until October 4th 2024 for the probation report.
Muna was nabbed at around 5:47 hrs today at a ‘stop and search’ operation conducted on Weldaad public road, West Coast Berbice, by ranks from Weldaad Police Station.
During the operation, a motor car bearing registration number PAB 6190, travelling towards Georgetown, was stopped. The nervous disposition of the driver (and only occupant of the vehicle), who was later learnt to be Shaima Muna, a resident of Chàrlestown Georgetown, along with a ‘high scent’ synonymous with Marijuana emanating from the car, prompted the Police to search the vehicle.
A search of the trunk of the motor car revealed one red and one blue travelling bag containing parcels of marijuana wrapped with transparent plastic. When weighed, the cannabis amounted to a total of 14kg 515 grams.
Shaima Muna was informed of the offence, arrested, and cautioned. She admitted to owning the narcotics and claimed that her mother was in the hospital, and she decided to take a chance to assist her with her medical bills.
