Police investigators have travelled to Leonora on the West Coast of Demerara to investigate a double-murder incident which took place early this morning.
The two dead persons have been identified as 30-year-old Mohamed Kalameeden Nasir of Stewartville and 25-year-old Arvinda Roopram, who was also from the Stewartville community.
The two men were stabbed to death during a roadside brawl with two other men at around 2:50 this morning just outside a nightclub.
A Police report revealed that during the argument between the four men, Roopram received several stab wounds on his body, and Nasir received one stab wound to his upper abdomen. It is unclear what led to the argument that evolved into a deadly brawl.
The Police have identified the two suspects as 28-year-old security guard, Alex Amsterdam and a man known only as Terry. Amsterdam sustained a stab wound to his abdomen during the brawl and is currently hospitalised under Police guard. The other suspect escaped from the scene and remains on the run. It is unclear whether he sustained any injury.
The Police said the murder scene was processed and a black-handle ‘Rambo’ knife was recovered. Several persons were questioned about the incident.
