Two of three armed bandits who attacked and shot a Better Hope businessman during the course of a robbery, were tracked down and arrested by the Police on Monday night. The third suspect managed to escape.
Police have identified the two gunmen as 35-year-old Winston Harris from Eccles and 38-year-old Dexter Simon of Charlestown.
The Police said investigators were able to recover a .32 revolver and a .38 revolver with matching ammunition when they arrested the two suspects.
A Police statement explained that it was just after 8pm on Monday when three armed men attacked the businessman at his hotel in Better Hope and forced him into his home, which is located at the same property.
Once in the house, the men started to demand money and jewellery while holding the businessman at gunpoint. The Police said after ransacking the house and continuing with their demands, one of the bandits shot the businessman after he did not comply with their request to hand over more money and jewellery.
The three suspects escaped on foot as the businessman was rushed to a hospital to nurse his gunshot injury.
The Police said a group of its patrol ranks received information about the suspects hiding out in the Industry community and moved into the area. They were able to apprehend two of the suspects while the third escaped.
The suspect who escaped is only known as “Kevin” and searches are continuing for him.
Investigations are ongoing.
