Businessman nabbed with suitcase of cocaine that came from Suriname

A Georgetown businessman was busted by the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit at his residence on Monday with just over eight pounds of cocaine in his possession.

The businessman’s name has been given as Lennox Gowen of Avocado Drive in East Ruimveldt.

According to reports, a suitcase arrived at the Eno Backtrack crossing for Gowen from neighbouring Suriname. He reportedly sent a driver for the suitcase and that driver was followed by CANU agents, acting on information that they had received.

The agents reportedly visited the businessman’s house just after he collected the suitcase and it was searched in his presence. The search revealed false sides of the suitcase with cocaine neatly packed in those false sides.

The businessman was told of the offence of cocaine possession and arrested. He was taken to CANU headquarters along with the cocaine. Charges are being prepared to be filed against him.

News Source understands that CANU and other law enforcement agencies have been closely monitoring the backtrack crossing on suspicion that it was being used to ferry drugs between Suriname and Guyana.
