
The suspect in the murder of Tassarene Toshao, Ridley Joseph, appeared in Court this morning and has been remanded to prison.
The accused, 26-year-old Noah Beaton of Bent Street, Georgetown appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Faith McGusty in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court to face the charge of murder.
He was represented by Attorney-at-Law Bernard Da Silva, and was not required to enter a plea to the indictable charge.
According to the particulars of the offence, on Monday, December 16, 2024 Beaton murdered Ridley Joseph at the Signature Inn Hotel in Laluni Street, Queenstown.
Beaton surrendered to Police at the Brickdam Police Station one day after the body of Toshao Ridley was discovered in his hotel room.
The accused, who worked as a security guard, was promptly arrested by the Police and investigators said he confessed to the crime.
Police investigators retrieved surveillance video recordings of the suspect entering the hotel with the victim, and later leaving after the gruesome crime.
Toshao Joseph was stabbed 19 times to his body. The two men were known to each other, and the Toshao was reportedly once the teacher of the accused.
The murder of the indigenous leader who was in Georgetown for a meeting of the National Toshao Council shocked the nation. He was 37-years-old.
The accused is expected back in Court on the 31st January 2025.
