27-year-old North East La Penitence resident, A’ishah McKenzie, might have been prepared for more than afternoon tea on Monday afternoon as she was busted with just over 5 pounds of cocaine in her suitcase while preparing to board a flight to London.
The bust was made by the Customs Anti Narcotics Unit.
McKenzie was checked-in to board a British Airways flight to London, when agents of the Customs Anti Narcotics Unit carried out a routine search of her suitcase and found the cocaine stashed in the false sides of the suitcase.
The woman was immediately told of the drug trafficking offence and taken into custody.
In a statement today, CANU said the drug trafficking accused appeared in Court this morning where the charge was read to her. She pleaded not guilty to the charge and was remanded to jail.
CANU said it is still continuing its investigations. There have been a number of failed attempts to get cocaine onto flights destined for London.
