Police search for driver in hit and run accident that claimed life of 9-month old baby

Police in Corentyne, Berbice are on the hunt for the driver of a car that was involved in a deadly hit and run accident that claimed the life of a 9-month old baby. The baby was at the time in the company of her 17-year-old father and 19-year-old mother.

The accident occurred on Sunday evening along the Line Path Public Road in Corentyne.

According to a Police report, the two teenage parents and the baby were on an electric cycle that was being driven by the father when the car slammed into the bike from the back, resulting in the mom, dad and baby being pitched onto the roadway.

The parents, Tushan Surujnarine and Kavita Bedsan along with the baby were all picked up in an unconscious state and rushed to the Skeldon Hospital as the driver of the car that hit them sped away from the scene.

The injured parents and baby were transferred to the Georgetown Hospital on Monday, but the baby succumbed to her injuries while being transported.

The driver of the car has since been identified as Avinesh Naidoo of Corriverton, Berbice. He is still to be apprehended and his whereabouts are unknown.

The car was found at the home of its owner, Vidawattie Arjune of Crabwood Creek. The woman is assisting the Police with the investigations, as efforts continue to locate the driver.
