Woman and Baby killed as bus plunges off bridge

Police investigators have confirmed that a woman  and a young baby were killed after a route 43 mini bus which plies the Linden to Georgetown route plunged off of the Linden Soesdyke Highway and into the Haruni creek as it approached the bridge on Sunday afternoon.

The dead woman has been identified as 22-year-old Anastacia Forde.

Eyewitnesses described a chaotic scene as they struggled to get the injured out of the bus as it laid upside down in the creek. Water rushed into the bus as the injured were pulled out and taken to the Linden Hospital. It is believed that the young baby, believed to be less than a year old may have been pitched out of the mini bus as it toppled off of the highway.

The driver’s name has been given as Joel Chapman aka “cutty”. The mother of the missing baby is nursing injuries at the Linden hospital.
