Leader of the People’s National Congress Reform (PNC/R), Aubrey Norton, has urged party members to close ranks and work hard to ensure the party’s success in this year’s General and Regional Elections.
However, he has acknowledged that there are some divisions in the party, but insisted that those divisions cannot continue in the face of a crucial elections.
Addressing his party’s General Council meeting over the weekend, Mr. Norton said there must be organizational discipline at all levels of the party, from the ground up.
“Comrades, no movement, no matter how noble its mission can prevail without unity, it is the cornerstone of our strength, the cement that binds our vision to our action and the lifeblood of our survival as a political force. Our unity must demand that we do not attack each other, our unity must ensure we listen to others and appreciate the differences,” the PNC/R Leader stated.

He urged party members to be their brother’s keepers, while thanking past leaders for setting a foundation for rallying the troops in the times of fractions. He said he will work hard to bring the party together.
“In this moment of great national crisis and historic opportunity we cannot afford fractures within our fold, we must be one party with one purpose with one people unified in action and so today, I offer not just words of welcome but a word of all members, of all comrades, all believers in Justice, there is room in the People’s National Congress for you,” Mr. Norton stated.
Mr. Norton said while his olive branch is extended to everyone within and outside the party, he will not allow a situation to continue where the party is constantly fighting over personalities.

“But let me also be clear, while all are allowed to build, none will be allowed to destroy, we did not inherit this party by chance, it was built by blood, sweat, sacrifice and struggle. We cannot allow narrow ambitions, hidden envy, or political mischief to derail the mission that so many before us work hard to uphold,” Norton noted.
According to the PNCR Leader, loyalty must be to the party, its principles and the people of Guyana and not to positions and personalities.
