Norton confident of APNU doing well at next General Elections; Still no decision on date for PNC internal elections

Dodging questions about the party’s overdue Biennial Delegates Congress, Leader of the People’s National Congress Reform, Aubrey Norton today said the APNU alliance is focused on the upcoming General and Regional Elections, which he estimates will be before 2025.

The party promised last year that its General Council will meet and deliberate on a date for the party’s Congress. But that General Council has passed without any announcement about the PNC/R’s internal elections. Mr. Norton told reporters today, that in due time, they will be informed about when the party will be preparing for its internal elections.

But with both the party’s Elections and a National Elections on the horizon, Mr. Norton was asked if he thinks he is the right man for the job.

“As it relates to rating myself as Opposition Leader, or as Leader of the PNC/R, I don’t want to be involved in saying whether I did well or bad, the people will decide. The party will hold its congress and then when it happens, they can decide whether I am doing a good job as leader of the PNC,” Norton told reporters.

Norton believes that the focus should be on removing the governing People’s Progressive Party from power, who he said he leading an unequal society.

For him though, he said majority of the PNC/R supporters are happy to have him as their leader.

“What I can say to you is that the mass of the party and support base seem happy with what I am doing and there will always will be those who are unhappy,” the Opposition Leader contends.

Additionally, Mr. Norton said his party is still hoping that some of its demands are met before the General Elections are called. Some of those demands, he reminded, include a clean voters list and the use of biometrics.
