Couple dies from injures sustained in fire at Moblissa home

Police investigators are probing the death of a 20-year-old housewife, who was badly burnt after a gas bottle reportedly exploded in her house at Moblissa along the Soesdyke-Linden highway. However, the dead woman’s family believe she may have been deliberately set on fire by her reputed husband. The reputed husband has since succumbed to burn injuries that he sustained.

A Police statement on Friday indicated that the incident took place early on Friday morning just after midnight. The dead woman was identified as Mezona Ronaldo. Her 34-year-old reputed husband, Kevin Cadagon, was badly burned after he reportedly attempted to put out the blaze, according to a Police report. However, he has since succumbed to his injuries.

The injured man’s mother told investigators that she was at home asleep when she was awakened by screams for “help” from her son.

According to the Police, the injured couple alleged that the young woman had been in the kitchen cooking when the gas bottle exploded and she was set on fire. The man claimed that he got burned as he extinguished the fire.

The badly burned pair was rushed to the Linden Hospital but were referred to the Georgetown Hospital for emergency care. The Police report stated that the 20-year-old woman died at the Georgetown Hospital while being treated while the reputed husband was admitted in a serious condition. He passed away early this morning.

Police Detectives from Georgetown and Linden are investigating the incident, as several critical questions about the incident remain.
