A 47-year-old taxi driver was badly beaten and chopped about his body on Friday night during an invasion by bandits at his home.
The injuries have resulted in the man’s death and investigators have arrested his wife on the suspicion that she was part of the planning of the invasion.
Dead is Mohamed Haniff of Experiment, West Coast Berbice. His 44-year-old wife remains in Police custody.
According to an official Police statement, the couple was at home around 9pm on Friday when three masked men barged into the house and started to beat and chop the husband.
The armed bandits, according to the Police then demanded money and when they were told none was in the house, they left the scene, leaving the injured man and his wife behind.
According to the Police, the victim was picked up by a neighbour and rushed to the Fort Wellington Hospital then transferred to the New Amsterdam Hospital where he died while receiving treatment.
The Major Crimes Unit of the Police Force is leading the investigations.
Investigators suspect that she hired the men to invade the house. She reportedly raised no alarm during or directly after the incident.
The probe is continuing.
