Several wanted by the Police over incitement of Public terror

The Guyana Police Force has issued wanted bulletins for more than 20 persons for the incitement of public terror. While many of those wanted were not named in the Police bulletins, their images were released.

Many of the wanted persons were captured on cctv cameras setting fire on various streets during Monday night protests, while others were fingered in robberies and lootings and others are wanted over statements made on social media, encouraging persons to protest by setting the streets alight.

The Guyana Police Force in a statement early this morning made it clear that all video footage, images, and other available evidence are being actively reviewed by the Guyana Police Force, and all persons implicated in criminal conduct, including, arson, blocking and burning public roadways, malicious damage and destruction to private and public properties, personal violence, and acts of terror and domestic terrorism, shall be arrested and charged.

The Police Force said the persons will also be placed on a no-flight list and their personal information and other particulars will be shared with regional and international law enforcement agencies.

Terror gripped the city of Georgetown and a number of areas with fiery protests on Monday night following the autopsy report on 11-year-old Adriana Younge, which concluded that died by drowning. The protests started earlier in the day outside the Georgetown Hospital where the post mortem was done, resulting in clashes between the Police and some of the protesters.

As night fell across the country, bands of motorcyclists were spotted setting fire to debris on the streets while being joined by others. There were also attacks on a number of businesses including supermarkets, the Burger King restaurant and other places. Persons heading home from work also reported being robbed by groups of men.

The Police reported that two suspects were shot dead during two different robbery incidents on Monday night.

As the situation unfolded, gas stations and other businesses closed their doors early, and roadside food vendors locked up their shops and hurried home as fires were set in different parts of the city and surrounding areas and also in places as far as Linden and Berbice.

The Home Affairs Minister has since announced a partial curfew between the hours of 12:30am and 5:00am effective from today.
