
A 29-year-old construction worker from Foulis on the East Coast of Demerara died on Sunday night, moments after he was allegedly shot by a 25-year-old security guard, who was attached to Force Security Service.
It is unclear what led to the shooting, but the guard has since been taken into custody and is being investigated for murder.
In a statement this morning, the Police identified the dead construction worker as Rondell Clarke. The Police said the incident occurred between 7:00pm and 7:45pm on Sunday in the Foulis community.
The Police said its ranks rushed the injured Rondell Clarke to the Georgetown Hospital just after the shooting incident, but he died while in the Emergency Room. The security guard was arrested and his gun was confiscated, the Police statement said.
A large crowd gathered outside the Cove and John Police station on Sunday night in protest over the shooting, with conflicting statements about the shooting incident being reported.
An investigation is underway.
