Police investigators are hunting for two men, who they say are identifiable and responsible for the murder of a 64-year-old security guard on Friday night.
The shooting incident took place at a Liliendaal supermarket on the East Coast where the guard was on duty.
According to a statement from the Police, the security guard, Gerald Henry, who was employed with a registered security firm, was attacked by the two men who wrestled with him for his weapon. A struggle ensued between the guard and the two men and it was during that struggle that he was shot.
The bandits relieved the injured man of his weapon and bolted from the scene. He was rushed to the Georgetown Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.
Investigators believe that the guard may have been specifically targeted for his weapon, but they are also looking at other motives. Just last week, another man from the same Sophia area was attacked and stabbed to death on his way home.
Sophia residents have been complaining about an increase in criminal activity in the community.
